Macedonian music forms a vital part of Macedonian folklore culture and traditions. It is known to have some of the most complex timing signatures in the world, with many songs having 7/8, 9/8, 11/8 signatures along with the usual 4/4, 2/4 and 3/4 signatures which exist everywhere else around the world. Some instruments used traditionally include the Tambura, Kaval, Gajda, Zurla, Tapan, Dajre and Šupelka. *
Relatively more modern instruments are also used to play traditional Macedonian music, such as piano accordions, clarinets, saxophones, trumpets, violins, drum kit, electric and bass guitars.
